Overview
An offline voice assistant with a wake word, a local LLM, and call minutes — built to run entirely on your own machine.
What it is
N.O.V.A v2 is a background assistant for your desktop. It stays quiet until it hears its wake word, understands commands through a local language model, and can sit through a call or meeting to hand you back a transcript and a set of minutes afterward.
- Runs fully offline — the wake word detector, speech-to-text, and language model all execute on your machine.
- Works across Windows, macOS, and Linux through a small platform layer for audio and app launching.
- Reuses the command set from the original N.O.V.A project as its first set of tools.
In active development. The desktop prototype is being built and under testing.
How it works
A command goes through the same steps every time:
Known commands, like open notepad or set a timer, are matched directly and run in under a second. Anything unmatched is handed to the local model, which picks a tool and returns it as JSON. See Voice Commands for the full list.
The four goals
The project set out to answer whether an assistant could do all of the following at once, entirely offline:
- Record calls and meetings, then produce minutes and transcripts — see Call & Meeting Minutes.
- Stay on in the background and wake on a keyword, Gemini/Siri style — see Wake Word.
- Run offline on a local LLM — see Stack & Tools.
- Cover most of the everyday tasks Gemini/Siri handle on Android — see Feasibility Notes.
